Albert Einstein: An Honorary Vegan!

As a vegan belt designer and a creative person in general, I find inspiration in all sorts of people. You already know about my love for Richard Simmons and how he helped inspire the Seva belt, but today I want to talk about a different sort of inspirational figure in my life: Albert Einstein.

Albert Einstein was a German-born physicist who developed the theory of relativity. He is considered the most influential physicist of the 20th century.

The contributions he made to the field of science and education are incredible. So much so that the name “Einstein” has come to mean someone who’s highly intelligent. He’s so popular still that he even has his own “official” website, even though he died decades before the web came to be!

Einstein died after refusing surgery, saying, “I want to go when I want. It is tasteless to prolong life artificially. I have done my share, it is time to go. I will do it elegantly.” What a brave man!

What you might also find interesting is the fact that Einstein also did not like eating meat! He’s quoted as saying “I have always eaten animal flesh with a somewhat guilty conscience.” and also, “So I am living without fats, without meat, without fish, but am feeling quite well this way. It always seems to me that man was not born to be a carnivore.”

Einstein became a vegetarian or vegan towards the end of his life. It is not 100% certain which of the two he was as the term vegan was first used in 1944 by Donald Watson who is the founder of The Vegan Society in the United Kingdom.

Some Interesting Quotes from Albert Einstein

“Although I have been prevented by outward circumstances from observing a strictly vegetarian diet, I have long been an adherent to the cause in principle. Besides agreeing with the aims of vegetarianism for aesthetic and moral reasons, it is my view that a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind.”

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”

“Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet.”

“I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us ‘universe’, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

“Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”

“When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That’s relativity.”

“Coincidence is God’s way of remaining anonymous.”

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”

“If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.”

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

“You never fail until you stop trying.”

“What is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right.”

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.”

As you can see from these quotes, Albert Einstein was not fully a vegan throughout his life. But he cared deeply for animals, and believed in the vegan lifestyle. For that reason, I hereby declare Albert Einstein an honorary vegan!

Would Einstein have loved Truth’s vegan belts? Based on these quotes, I think so!

When I design Truth’s vegan belts, when I dance, and in all the creative things I do, Einstein is an inspiration to me. I hope some of these quotes helped inspire you as well!
