About Truth Belts
I started Truth from the solarium of my apartment.
Vegan Fashion Since 2001
Truth Belts knows that fashion doesn’t have to be cruel to be cool. In this day and age, you can be both stylish and ethical. My intention with Truth is to create high-quality, vegan fashion – and to have a LOT of fun along the way!
For as long as I remember, I’ve loved creating things. In high school, I started designing my own clothes, and it opened up a whole new world for me. I was thrilled by the idea of turning my new hobby into a career path, and chose to do a degree in Fashion Design at Ryerson University in Toronto.
After graduation, I worked for various companies, designing skiwear, backpacks, and soft-sided coolers. Along the way, I gained an extensive knowledge of man-made, technical materials and, when the time came to design and create products of my own, I naturally gravitated toward what I knew.
Here is my first line of belts back in 2001!
Truth Vegan Belts was Born
I started Truth in 2001, making belts out of my apartment in downtown Toronto. I was determined to create a life that I loved and at the same time, I wanted to do something that would make a difference to our planet.
Since I had no experience with leather, I made my belts out of what I like to call ‘Genuine Non-Leather’. I thought that was a funny phrase and decided to stamp all of my ‘leather-look’ belts with this phrase on the back. Funny!
Over the years, as my approach to design has developed, my personal interests and lifestyle choices have also evolved – more and more, they aligned with and reinforce the innate philosophy of Truth.
I strongly believe that as a business owner I can make choices that make a difference to our planet. Mother nature needs our help right now. Nature is here to support humans and it seems like all we have done is abuse and exploit her to fulfil our own selfish desires. That’s why I choose to have my products made in Canada and to use animal friendly materials
The livestock/leather industry is the largest contributor of pollution to our planet. The production of a leather hide is about 20 times more than the production of a synthetic material.

Did you know that the livestock industry contributes to approximately 18% of human-caused greenhouse gases?
An interesting article in ‘Science.Time.com‘ discusses this in greater detail. And, this is just one of many reports. This needs to stop. By supporting vegan companies and making responsible choices about what kind of food you eat and what you wear, you are making an impact on the environment. Our planet really needs our love and compassion. No act is too small.
1% of sales from truthbelts.com are donated to my favourite charity, ‘Embracing the World’. This organization does AMAZING things for our planet such as planting trees, disaster relive, building homes for the poor, education for children and much more. I also donate 100% of sales from THE ALBEDO belt to Parvati.org, which is an amazing organization that does everything they can to protect the Arctic Ocean from oil drilling and seismic testing. I feel strongly that it is imperative that our oceans are healthy. Without them, humans are not healthy.
Recycled Car Tires…. I like recycling!
My newest belt styles use recycled car tires. I think it’s a wonderful thing. There are too many old car tires sitting around and my goal is to recycle as many as possible. I wrote an interesting article about the importance of using recycled car tires. The belt styles that use recycled car tires are Gemini, Savoy, Smith, Albedo, Narwhal and Fergus.
There is no greater joy for me than creating Truth products and sharing them with you. Thank you for stopping by. Live your truth!
Yours in health, consciousness and cool vegan fashion,
