About Truth Belts
I started Truth from the solarium of my apartment.
Vegan Fashion Since 2001
Truth Belts knows that fashion doesn’t have to be cruel to be cool. In this day and age, you can be both stylish and ethical. My intention with Truth is to create high-quality, vegan fashion – and to have a LOT of fun along the way!
For as long as I remember, I’ve loved creating things. In high school, I started designing my own clothes, and it opened up a whole new world for me. I was thrilled by the idea of turning my new hobby into a career path, and chose to do a degree in Fashion Design at Ryerson University in Toronto.
After graduation, I worked for various companies, designing skiwear, backpacks, and soft-sided coolers. Along the way, I gained an extensive knowledge of man-made, technical materials and, when the time came to design and create products of my own, I naturally gravitated toward what I knew.
Here is my first line of belts back in 2001!
Truth Vegan Belts was Born
I started Truth in 2001, making belts out of my apartment in downtown Toronto. I was determined to create a life that I loved and at the same time, I wanted to do something that would make a difference to our planet.
Since I had no experience with leather, I made my belts out of what I like to call ‘Genuine Non-Leather’. I thought that was a funny phrase and decided to stamp all of my ‘leather-look’ belts with this phrase on the back. Funny!
Over the years, as my approach to design has developed, my personal interests and lifestyle choices have also evolved – more and more, they aligned with and reinforce the innate philosophy of Truth.
I strongly believe that as a business owner I can make choices that make a difference to our planet. Mother nature needs our help right now. Nature is here to support humans and it seems like all we have done is abuse and exploit her to fulfil our own selfish desires. Us humans are currently behaving in a way that no animal would ever treat their herd, flock, pod or swam. We have forgotten that we are part of nature. That’s why I choose to have my products made in Canada and to use animal friendly materials.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has found that beef production gives rise to more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry.
Did you know that trees and forests are constantly being cut down to make room for cattle? The Amazon forest has lost about 1/5th of its forest over the years to cattle ranching. The number of trees cut down in the Amazon is equal to an area the same size as Washington State.
Approximately 200 million pounds of beef is imported by the United States from Central America every year. The largest exporter of beef is Brazil. In the past, North American and Europe were the ones importing this beef. But nowadays China and Russia are consuming more and more beef than ever before. With increasing population and increased per capita meat consumption, the rate of deforestation is increasing every day as well.
The livestock/leather industry is the largest contributor of pollution to our planet. The production of a leather hide is about 20 times more than the production of a synthetic material.Find out more in this interesting article on the topic.
Trees are an important part of our eco-system – here’s why…
The cutting down of trees is one of the main reasons why the temperature of our planet is rising. Trees are the air conditioners for our planet. They play an important part by removing carbon dioxide from the air, while releasing oxygen back into the air. They absorb odours and pollutant gasses by trapping them on their leaves and bark. They create shade so that the sun rays to not hit the ground. To find out more about benefits of trees click here.
It is my wish that humans start waking up and realize that we are part of nature. Our planet is an intelligent being, currently in a state of agitation. By choosing a vegan/vegetarian diet you are making a difference! By supporting companies such as this one, you are making a difference.
Recycled Car Tires…. I like recycling!
Recycling is a wonderful thing. There are too many old car tires sitting around and my goal is to recycle as many as possible. Some of my belts are made from recycled car tires. They look so gorgeous that you would never know it. Old car tires get discarded into landfills and are often burned, which emits horrible toxins into the air. The belt styles that use recycled car tires are Gemini, Savoy, Dyad, Smith, Albedo, Narwhal and Fergus.
There is no greater joy for me than creating Truth products and sharing them with you. Thank you for stopping by. Live your truth!
PS – I am coming out with a few new belts styles in September/October of 2017. They are going to blow your mind:)
Yours in health, consciousness and cool vegan fashion,
